Debra LaPrad, M.D. Board Certified Ophthalmologist

Debra LaPrad, M.D., is a board-certified general ophthalmologist and a partner at Eye Associates of the South..

As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, she performs a wide variety of services. She specializes in cataract surgery and the treatment of glaucoma. Her other services range from annual eye exams and diabetic exams to correcting eyelid disorders and performing oculoplastics or “eye plastics” procedures.

Eye surgeries performed by Dr. LaPrad include cataract surgery, lesion removals, glaucoma, plastics and lid surgeries. Her specialty cataract surgery procedures include implanting iStents for glaucoma patients and PanOptix trifocal replacement lenses. She performs medical Botox treatments, usually to treat spasms. Dr. LaPrad also manages some surgeries, pre-op or post-op, for other ophthalmologists.

Dr. LaPrad treats both adult and pediatric patients, including entire families.

An Alabama native, Dr. LaPrad completed her Residency in Ophthalmology at Louisiana State University and the Ochsner Program in New Orleans. She earned her medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and took her internship in Preliminary Medicine at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

She earlier earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, graduating magna cum laude at Troy State University.

Dr. LaPrad is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of various medical societies that include the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery. She is licensed to practice in the State of Mississippi.

Her medical presentations include “Long Term Safety of Botox.”

In October 2019, she was named on the “Gulf Coast’s Top Doctors” list by Gulf Coast Woman magazine. Dr. LaPrad also has won the Patients’ Choice Award and the On-Time Physician Award from national awards groups with merit based fully or in part on local patients’ evaluations. She has been part of the lead team for Eye Associates of the South that has won numerous local and regional honors from patients and the public for excellence in eye care.

Dr. LaPrad is a member of the Ocean Springs Rotary Club. She and her husband live with their three children in Ocean Springs.
